XML Sitemap Generator
Paste your page URLs and get a ready-to-upload sitemap.xml
About this tool
The ToolNinja XML Sitemap Generator builds a standards-compliant sitemap.xml from a list of page URLs — the file search engines use to discover and prioritize crawling your site's pages, especially ones that might not be easily reachable through internal links alone. Each URL gets an optional lastmod date, changefreq hint, and priority value, following the sitemap protocol (sitemaps.org) that Google, Bing, and other search engines all support. URLs are validated as proper absolute http(s) addresses before generating output, since a sitemap entry that isn't a real absolute URL is simply ignored (or causes a validation warning) by every major search engine's sitemap parser. This pairs directly with the existing robots.txt Generator — a robots.txt's Sitemap: directive is exactly how you tell crawlers where to find the sitemap this tool produces. Everything runs 100% in your browser — your URL list never leaves your machine.
When to use it
- →Generating a sitemap.xml for a site that doesn't have server-side sitemap generation built in
- →Producing a sitemap for a subset of pages (e.g. just blog posts) to submit separately in Google Search Console
- →Quickly building a sitemap from a list of URLs exported from a CMS or static site generator's build output
- →Understanding exactly what changefreq and priority mean before deciding whether to set them
Tips
- ◆changefreq and priority are both just hints — search engines are explicit that they may largely ignore both, so don't rely on priority to meaningfully influence crawl behavior or rankings.
- ◆A sitemap is capped at 50,000 URLs per file — a larger site needs multiple sitemap files listed in a sitemap index file, which this tool doesn't generate directly.
- ◆Add the generated sitemap's URL to your robots.txt's Sitemap: line (the robots.txt Generator tool has a field for exactly this) so crawlers can discover it automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Does a sitemap guarantee my pages will be indexed?
No — a sitemap only helps search engines discover and understand the structure of your site; it doesn't guarantee indexing, and it has essentially no direct effect on ranking. Pages still need to meet a search engine's own quality and indexing criteria independently of being listed in a sitemap.
Do search engines actually use the priority value?
Google has stated for years that it largely ignores the priority field, treating it as a weak signal at best. It's still part of the sitemap protocol and some search engines or internal tools may use it, but don't expect setting priority to 1.0 on every page to meaningfully change crawl behavior.
Why were some of my pasted URLs rejected?
Every sitemap entry must be a complete, absolute URL including the protocol (https://example.com/page, not /page or example.com/page) — the validator flags any line that doesn't parse as a proper absolute http or https URL, since those are the only forms search engines' sitemap parsers accept.
